CMFA 2001 SUMMER LECTURES
by Greg Harper, Executive Director and Curator of the Cape Museum of Fine Arts

For the fourth year, the CMFA is proud to present its Summer lectures by distinguished artists, historians and collectors.  We are featuring three topics this year, all of which are pertinent to the museum’s on-going discussion of this region’s role in the history of American art.

Each lecture begins at  7:00PM and will last about one hour.  The museum’s galleries will be open to lecture attendees by 6:00PM .  Admission is $12 ( $10 for CMFA members) and includes gallery admission.  CMFA members are also eligible for the ART DISCOVERY DISCOUNT CARD  which provides 10 admissions to all Lecture and Tuesdays with the Muse programs for $6.50 each throughout the year.

Summer Lecture Schedule:

The 1913 Armory Show: Turning Point in American Art

Elton Yasuna M.D. and his wife Penny have been dedicated collectors of American art for over 40 years.  During this time there have been seven museum exhibitions of their collections including Surrealism in America during the 1930s and 1940s at the CMFA last summer which received a special tribute in the New York Times. Dr. Yasuna was a lecturer on the faculty of the Worcester Art Museum and, for the past few winters, has given courses in American art at the educational center in Sarasota, Florida.

The Yasuna and Denny families are the donors of the CMFA ‘s new  sculpture garden which will open July 7, 2001.

Sam Feinstein and Patricia Stark
Anita Askild: Scandinavian Imagery, Mythological Themes

Artist/Educators Sam Feinstein and Patricia Stark have lectured for the CMFA Summer Lecture Series in years past and are experienced commentators on modern art in America.  Mr. Feinstein presented his films of Hans Hofmann as part of the 2000 Lecture Series after debuting them at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in the autumn of 1999.
