CAPE COD'S OWN "LUNT AND FONTANNE" IN UNIQUE APPEARANCE
by Burt Albert, Series Developer, "Tuesdays with the Muse"UPDATE: "The Actor's Craft: An Evening with Judith Partelow and Jeff Spencer," originally scheduled for March 6, will take place on Tuesday, March 13, 7PM, Cape Museum of Fine Arts."
An unusual opportunity awaits fans of local theatre fare on Tuesday, March 6, when two of the area's outstanding performers appear at the Cape Museum of Fine Arts in a program called "The Actor's Craft: An Evening with Judith Partelow and Jeff Spencer."
During the program, which is part of the "Tuesdays with the Muse" series, the pair will discuss the challenges and techniques in taking on certain roles and will then reprise scenes to demonstrate points.
"Anyone familiar with Inside the Actors Studio on Bravo TV will be in for a treat," said Gregory F. Harper, museum director.
The popular television series, hosted by James Lipton, provides the model for the Partelow/Spencer appearance, "which has been in the making for several weeks," Harper added.
Partelow, a professional actress and director, is a member of Actors' Equity Association, Screen Actors Guild, the Lee Strasberg Institute Workshop and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA).
Her acting credits include not only movie and television parts but also starring roles in nearly 25 regional productions, such as Agnes of God, Diary of Anne Frank and Private Lives.
On stage she has worked with Bob Newhart, Julie Harris, Apollo Dukakis and Natalie Ross. For the Eventide Festival she has originated the characters of Mrs. Stephen Foster, Anna Howard Shaw and Susan B. Anthony.
In touring productions for schools she has been Mary Poppins, Mrs. Peppersniffer and Laura Ingalls Wilder.
Her film credits include Ghostbusters, Raise the Titantic and The Kennedys and the Fitzgeralds. Partelow has also directed a number of productions, including musicals as well as works for the Harwich Junior Theatre.
Spencer has played leads in The Price, A View from the Bridge, The Gin Game and other productions. Altogether he has appeared in nearly 30 works. For his role as Lee in the Barnstable Comedy Club's production of Sam Shephard's True West, Spencer was nominated for the Best Actor Award by the Association of Community Theatre Excellence.
His directing credits include Agnes of God, Run for Your Wife, and Foxfire among others.
Marriage partners, the two actors often appear as each other's "frequent and favorite co-star."
The Tuesday program begins at 7 in the Cape Museum of Fine Arts on the campus of the Cape Playhouse Center for the Arts, Route 6A, Dennis Village. Admission is $6.50 for members with a CMFA Art Discovery Card. Regular admission is $10 for members, $12 for others.
Celebrating its 20th year and soon to be completing its $1.5 million addition, the CMFA was recently hailed "a star museum" by The New York Times. Its charter is to "collect, conserve, study, interpret and exhibit works primarily by the outstanding artists associated with Cape Cod and the Islands."
