WOMEN CREATING
by Debbie Crockett-Rice, Series Developer, "Tuesdays with the Muse"

The eighth annual WOMEN CREATING will hold it’s opening reception at the Cape Museum of Fine Art in Dennis on March 1, 2002 from 5 to 7pm. Over seventy juried and invitational artists will be shown at this month-long exhibition.

Timed to coincide with International Women's Month, WOMEN CREATING is the Cape Cod Women's Organization's (CCWO) festival of the arts. It is a celebration of the creativity and artistic accomplishments of Cape Cod women.

CCWO champions the visibility of women artists, writers and performers, and invites the Cape to celebrate the accomplishments and creativity of Cape Cod women. In addition to the Cape Museum of Fine Arts exhibit, events featuring women poets, writers, musicians,

actors, and visuals artists, including weavers, fiber artists and photographers. These events will occur in many diverse Cape locations including the Star gallery in Orleans, Barnes and Noble in Hyannis, Harwich Junior Theatre, The Academy of the Performing Arts in Orleans and Liam’s Pub in Falmouth.

Each year WOMEN CREATING presents a living treasure award to a woman artist whose life long dedication to the arts has had a significant effect on the Cape Cod art community.  This year, the award will be presented at the March 1st Cape Museum of Fine Arts reception to visual artist, Lillian Orlowsky. Following her training at the National Academy of Design, Ms. Orlowsky’s  artistic roots developed in the studio of Hans Hoffman.  She participated in President Roosevelt’s Works in Progress Administration, creating artworks for the common man.  Her works are in permanent museum collections throughout the world.  Lillian’s involvement with the Provincetown Art Association stretches over the past fifty years, as a trustee, a classroom instructor and a mentor.  Her own work continues as a never-ending process.  She still strives for new means of personal expression, continually questing after discovery with wonder and unflagging enthusiasm.
